CONMEBOL asks FIFA to suspend World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for March
Amid fears of the dreaded Corona Virus (Covid-19), the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL, /ˈkɒnmɪbɒl/; Spanish: Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol; Portuguese: Confederação Sul-Americana de Futebol or CSF) is the continental governing body of football in South America) has requested the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to suspend the beginning of the Qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup to be played among South American nations in March 2020. This was done by a letter published by CONMEBOL in the name of members including Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, Columbia, et cetera.
This comes on the back of the decision by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) cancelling all sporting events in the country until April 2020. FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have agreed to postpone the Asian World Cup qualifying matches in March and June due to the pandemic.
